An exceptionally attractive Fluorite specimen from one of Austria’s most important alpine mineral localities – the legendary Gipfelkluft of Weißeck in the Radstädter Tauern Mountains.
Rising to an impressive 2,711 metres, Weißeck is the highest peak of the Radstädter Tauern. The famous Gipfelkluft is situated at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit and accessible only under extremely demanding alpine conditions. For decades, this remarkable locality has produced spectacular Fluorites, ranking among the most fascinating alpine Fluorite discoveries in Europe.
The complex geological environment, tectonic stresses and natural weathering processes have contributed to extraordinary crystal formations. Multiple generations of crystal growth and an astonishing variety of colour zoning, sometimes resembling an entire pastel-coloured rainbow, give these Fluorites their unmistakable character. Perfectly preserved, sharply defined crystal faces are far from common under such challenging natural conditions.
The specimen offered here is a truly beautiful example of this celebrated locality. Wonderfully preserved crystal faces and remarkable transparency reveal intense, beautifully varied internal colour zoning, creating fascinating three-dimensional depth and an extraordinary interplay of colour and light.
