An exceptionally attractive Alpine Fluorite from the celebrated Summit Cleft of Weißeck, captivating with its fascinating colour composition, remarkable translucency and beautifully developed crystal surfaces.
The centrepiece of this exquisite specimen is a broad, impressively developed crystal face adorned with countless delicate, step-like growth structures. Partly parallel and partly intricately interwoven, these fine terraces create an exceptionally detailed surface relief, lending the crystal remarkable three-dimensional depth. Particularly appealing is the contrast between these intricately stepped areas and the smoother, translucent crystal sections.
Under suitable illumination, the specimen reveals a truly enchanting display of colours. Delicate icy blue and turquoise-green hues blend into luminous blue-violet, soft lavender and richer violet zones, occasionally complemented by warm golden-yellow to honey-coloured accents. The partially translucent crystal sections allow light to penetrate deeply, beautifully revealing the different colour regions within.
The reverse is equally fascinating, displaying additional finely structured growth surfaces and a particularly attractive, almost band-like violet colour zone that contrasts beautifully with the lighter bluish and greenish areas. This complex appearance makes the specimen intriguing from virtually every viewing angle.
The famous Gipfelkluft, or Summit Cleft, is situated at approximately 2,670 metres above sea level, immediately below the 2,711-metre summit of Weißeck in Austria’s Radstädter Tauern mountains. Fluorites from this remote Alpine locality are highly regarded among collectors for their complex growth structures, attractive colour zoning and distinctive crystal surfaces.
