Rising to 2,711 metres, Weißeck is the highest summit of the Radstädter Tauern and home to one of Europe’s most important alpine Fluorite localities. Its famous Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit and accessible only under extremely demanding alpine conditions. For decades, this celebrated occurrence has produced extraordinary Fluorites.
Complex geological conditions, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have influenced crystal development at this high-alpine locality. Successive growth stages and multiple generations of crystallisation can produce fascinating colour zoning, ranging from intense grape-red and icy blue to the celebrated pastel-rainbow variations. Beautifully preserved crystal faces are comparatively uncommon under these challenging natural conditions.
