Rising to 2,711 metres, Weißeck is the highest summit of the Radstädter Tauern. Its celebrated Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit and accessible only under extremely demanding alpine conditions. For decades, this remarkable locality has produced some of Europe’s most distinctive alpine Fluorites.
Complex geological processes, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have influenced crystal formation at this locality. Different growth stages and successive generations of crystallisation can produce extraordinary colour zoning, ranging from intense grape-red and characteristic icy blue to the celebrated pastel-rainbow variations. Beautifully preserved crystal faces are far from common under these challenging natural conditions.
