Alpine Fluorite - Summit Cleft, Weisseck, Austria

A truly extraordinary one-of-a-kind Fluorite specimen from the legendary Gipfelkluft of Weißeck, captivating with its imaginative crystal architecture and almost poetic natural beauty.

At the heart of this unusual composition lies a magnificent blue-violet Fluorite crystal displaying beautifully developed parquet-like surface patterns. Resting upon it are two smaller, elegantly formed Fluorite crystals, each revealing enchanting internal phantoms. These fascinating growth features preserve traces of earlier stages of crystallisation, lending the crystals remarkable depth and mineralogical interest.

What makes this specimen truly exceptional, however, is its delightful overall appearance. The larger blue-violet Fluorite resembles a luxurious velvet cushion, upon which the two Phantom Fluorites rest like precious gemstones. A wonderfully harmonious natural sculpture, combining charming proportions, captivating colour and extraordinary crystalline detail!

The celebrated Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit of Weißeck, which rises to 2,711 metres as the highest peak of the Radstädter Tauern. For decades, this remote and exceptionally difficult-to-access alpine locality has ranked among Austria’s most important Fluorite occurrences.

Complex geological conditions, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have contributed to remarkable crystal formations. Multiple growth stages, fascinating phantom structures and an extraordinary variety of colours, occasionally extending into delicate pastel-rainbow zoning, distinguish the Fluorites of this famous locality. As perfectly preserved crystal faces are comparatively uncommon, particularly aesthetic specimens are especially desirable.

An unmistakable Weißeck treasure, distinguished not only by its mineralogical features but also by its wonderfully artistic and almost whimsical natural composition. A delightful little masterpiece of nature!
