Yet its true magic emerges in transmitted light: The intense burgundy-red begins to glow with remarkable warmth and depth, revealing delicate internal colour zones ranging from soft pastel hues to unexpected shades of green.

As the angle of illumination changes, new nuances and intricate internal structures become visible, unveiling a hidden world of colour beneath its dark red exterior. The celebrated Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the 2,711-metre summit of Weißeck, the highest peak of the Radstädter Tauern. For decades, this remote and exceptionally challenging alpine locality has produced some of Europe’s most remarkable Fluorites.
Complex geological conditions, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have influenced crystal formation at this high-alpine occurrence. Successive growth stages and multiple generations of crystallisation can produce fascinating colour zoning, ranging from intense grape-red and icy blue to the celebrated pastel-rainbow variations. Beautifully preserved crystal faces are far from common under these demanding natural conditions.
