Here we see an exceptionally rare pink Anhydrite crystal, well-developed in a nest of hydroboracite.
The delicate pink coloration is caused by trace amounts of manganese and is extraordinarily uncommon for this species at this locality.
The specimen originates from what is considered the world’s most important borate deposit. Access to this site has been completely impossible for approximately 15 years, as it is now entirely backfilled. Even during its short period of accessibility—limited to barely two years—it could only be entered by a very small number of individuals due to the extremely difficult and hazardous terrain.
As a result, Anhydrite crystals of this color and provenance rank among the rarest and most historically significant specimens available to collectors today.
Size: 3.5 x 2.8 x 1.7 cm
Origin: Kohnstein Quarry, Niedersachswerfen, Harz, Germany
