This smoky quartz specimen is captivating due to the paragenetic combination of silicates so typical of Mount Malosa in Malawi. The crystal displays an excellent smoky-brown hue and an exceptionally well-defined, flat morphology of sculptural elegance. Particularly intriguing are the deep, dark aegirine inclusions at the edges and within the crystal, which document the coexistence of quartz and sodium-rich pyroxene in the alkali pegmatites. The main termination also exhibits a highly structured surface architecture from a late hydrothermal phase, in which the surfaces were dissolved by fluids and subsequently recrystallized. This relief-like interplay of light lends the crystal a special vibrancy and makes it a first-class, aesthetically pleasing specimen.
